Norway is Open to Travelers from Around the World
By Ted Scull
Norway has just announced that all travelers no longer need to quarantine to enter — Norway is open to travelers from around the world.
However, travelers must register online prior to arriving at the entry point and then complete a free COVID-19 antigen test on arrival. Travelers need to have a valid COVID certificate and must also have a test before departing to Norway. (A COVID certificate is an official document stating you are vaccinated, recovered or have negative PCR or rapid antigen test results.)
Everyone who has a valid visitor’s visa, or who is entitled to visit Norway without a visitor’s visa, or who holds a valid residence permit in Norway, can enter Norway without having to quarantine, including travelers from the USA and other countries outside the EU.
Who Goes There?
Midwinter may be an odd time to think about Norwegian travel, but what about looking ahead to late spring and summer when Norway is open and warm.
Now that Norway is open to travelers from all over the world, these small-ship lines plan on offering cruises in Norway in summer 2022:
Registration & Testing
All travelers must complete an entry registration form, if they are 16 years or older, within 72 hours before arriving in Norway.
Then, all must take a rapid antigen test on arrival or within 24 hours after arrival at entry points without test stations. Tests on arrival are free of charge, and test stations are available at all major points of entry such as international airport arrivals, international ferry and train arrivals, and at major highway crossings.
Adults who do not have a valid COVID certificate must also take a test (PCR or antigen) no more than 24 hours prior to arriving in Norway. If you arrive by air, the test can be taken during the last 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure time of the first flight on your itinerary.
Children are not required to take a test prior to arriving in Norway, but do so on arrival. Children under 16 may be exempt if it would be unreasonably difficult for them to take the test.
If you test positive or have symptoms then you must go into isolation straightaway. If you are in close contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID, you may be required to quarantine or, alternatively, to test yourself regularly over a period of time in order to avoid quarantining.
While tests are free at the main points of entry, if you need to take a test before departing Norway on the return leg of your journey, you must pay for a private test.
