Scenic’s First Discovery Yacht Delayed
By Anne Kalosh.
The world will have to wait a few more months to be dazzled by SCENIC ECLIPSE, the lavish “discovery yacht” being built in Croatia for Scenic Luxury Cruises & Tours.
The ship’s delivery has been delayed from August until late January.
Scenic Founder and Chairman Glen Moroney cited construction issues at Uljanik shipyard in Pula.
“Despite the best efforts of our SCENIC ECLIPSE build supervision team to make up construction time, we are not prepared to compromise the quality of the vessel and potentially impact guest experiences to meet the original late August 2018 launch date,” Moroney said.
The company apologized to passengers and promised a full refund and consideration of associated costs incurred with their disrupted travel plans. Those who rebook to travel on SCENIC ECLIPSE within the next two years will get a credit valued at 25 percent of the cost of their rebooked cruise.
Scenic is touting ECLIPSE as a six-star luxury yacht. The 17,085-gross-ton ship will be able to carry 228 passengers in 114 all-veranda suites. Facilities include nine restaurants, eight lounges and bars, a luxurious Spa Sanctuary, separate fitness areas and indoor, outdoor and plunge pools, as well as a marina deck, helicopters and a submarine. SCENIC ECLIPSE is being built to Ice Class 1A (Polar Class 6) standard.
A sister ship has been ordered for delivery in May 2020.
