Review of Majestic Line’s Glen Rosa

This was a whole boat charter for six family members. It was supposed to be a wildlife discovery cruise around the island of Mull. It became very clear that the boat we had chartered, although some 70 feet in length, would not be capable of a circumnavigation of Mull unless the sea was very calm and that would be a big ask off the coast of Scotland. The cruise was sold as a go anywhere cruise but we only managed a trip north as far as Tobermory and visited several sea lochs where it was guaranteed to be quiet water.

The boat was tired and everything about the facilities on board were tired. No hot water for showers. Small beds that were not the most comfortable. The tap water was brown and explained away by the crew as the way water is in Scotland…..nonsense. The water was brown because the water tanks were agitated under way and the years and years of sediment were disturbed from their slumber in the bottom of the tanks. Early morning water use showed this to be the case as the first run off from the tap was clear.

I felt for the crew of two…..the captain had to perpetuate the myth that the sea was simply too rough to visit the north part of Bute and the chef who had to double up as deck hand. They were both very good at their job but the boat and the owners let them down. On the plus side the two kids enjoyed the water and playing in it. In conclusion I would have to say don’t waste your money on this “cruise” it simply is not worth it. The owners should be ashamed of themselves for selling a product that in most cases does not exist.

We are delighted to hear that our crew made a positive impression during your cruise – they work hard to ensure every guest feels welcome, and it’s wonderful to know their efforts were appreciated.

We are truly sorry to hear that the condition of the boat fell short of your expectations. We recognise that the quality of our vessel is a crucial part of your overall experience and continually strive to improve. The weather did limit the cruising area that particular week, sadly this is not something we can control.

A pathetic response from their customer contact Ms Forsyth. Not unlike the response I received from their CEO who seemed to think a refit of the vessel meant changing the color of the upholstery. I don’t expect the new owners to have much expert knowledge given their background is running busses.
