Glen Shiel Scotland Cruise Review

Cabins are comfortable with good showers. The crew were friendly and cheerful.

The food was mediocre – overcooked steak, langoustine cooked to disintegration, no fresh supplies taken on in 6 days. A starter of oysters was 2 per person! Breakfast porridge was disappointing, mother’s pride was used for toast, frozen fish was overcooked for evening meals. Cakes and biscuits for tea and coffee were good.

Rubbish was never disposed of during the week, and put under seats on deck, which stank after 2 days.

Wifi was very poor. Only 3 chaise lounges and 2 chairs on deck for 12 people, bathed in diesel fumes from the engine. The cushions were ratty and soiled.

Swimming at beaches was lovely, but a fresh towel (after using bath towel) was refused. Towels never dried in cabins as they had no opening porthole.

The engine was underneath the dining room and the noise was so loud that it was impossible to speak if we were moving during meals.

Despite requesting a distillery tour in Islay on our first day, this was apparently impossible to arrange, although there were 3 distilleries within walking distance, all with mid-morning tours.

Weather conditions were not a problem for organising outings, as the sea was like a millpond.
