UnCruise in Hawaii
by Anne Kalosh
UnCruise Adventures commenced Hawaii sailings aboard the 36-passenger Safari Explorer as the state’s sole cruise operator for now.
Big ship lines have to wait until 2022.
UnCruise began service in late November after its safety and operations team worked with state and county management, including coordinating closely with the Hawaii Department of Transportation and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources.
The company requires 100 percent COVID-19 vaccination and testing for crew and passengers — no exceptions for kids, religious beliefs, etc.

UnCruise in Hawaii, an Immersive Exploration
“After almost two years of very limited travel, we are celebrating the permissions granted to us, and our ability to share an immersive exploration of the Hawaiian Islands, including the less-traveled island of Molokai, whose people and culture have become a part of the UnCruise Adventures family,” UnCruise owner Capt. Dan Blanchard said.
“We have worked diligently to ensure that Hawaii’s residents are safe and confident in our operations,” he continued. “The support shown by Hawaii government officials has been invaluable in routing a path for our guests to experience these beautiful islands. It is humbling to be granted permission to operate.”
Four Islands in a Week
UnCruise is marking 12 years of Hawaii operations with its seven-night “Hawaiian Seascape” itinerary.
The plucky Safari Explorer sails between Molokai and the Kona Coast, skirting Lanai and visiting Maui.
Travelers visit four islands in one week, exploring by hiking, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling.
UnCruise in Hawaii highlights include a cultural adventure in Molokai’s Halawa Valley and the Big Island’s Hualalai Volcano and Kealakekua Bay (where the first Westerner, James Cook, landed and was killed a year later in a skirmish with Native Hawaiians).
Multiple adventures are offered each day in a program that focuses on community, culture and connection.
