American Cruise Lines’s American Revolution Cruise Review
Background:
This trip was organized by my travel companion, who had recently moved to the Washington D.C. area and was interested in exploring the region. As a long-time resident of the Chesapeake Bay area (Maryland), I was curious to experience familiar locales from a tourist perspective.
Pre-Cruise and Embarkation:
The itinerary started with a luxurious overnight stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in historic Georgetown, with its tree lined cobbled streets, lovely homes, variety of restaurants and high end shopping. The inclusion of a National Mall tour and museum visit set the stage for our introduction to D.C.’s historical significance. Embarkation at Washington Harbour, another upscale destination, was seamless, including a delicious lunch before departure.
Onboard Experience:
The daily rhythm established a comfortable and enriching routine. Mornings began with elegant dining room breakfasts, followed by expertly guided shore excursions. Afternoons offered opportunities for scenic relaxation on deck, culminating in thoughtfully crafted dinners showcasing regional Chesapeake cuisine. The onboard culinary team, including the pastry chef, were excellent. Evening entertainment included engaging historical presentations by the onboard historian, contextualizing the cruise itinerary within the broader narrative of early American history. Later, guests could gather at the open bar to enjoy music and dancing.

Excursion Highlights:
The itinerary featured a diverse range of enriching excursions.
Standout experiences included:
- Annapolis: A fascinating exploration of the historic State House and the city’s charming ambiance.
- St. Michaels: A compelling presentation of the Harriet Tubman narrative, complemented by the town’s picturesque charm.
- Monuments by Moonlight: A memorable evening trolley tour, particularly highlighted by the impactful Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.
- Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge Bike Tour: An active exploration of the region’s natural beauty, despite chilly weather.
- Crab Picking Demonstration: An authentic and engaging cultural experience, showcasing a beloved Chesapeake tradition.

Accommodations, Dining & Amenities:
The American Glory provided exceptionally clean and spacious accommodations. Our cabin, featuring a private balcony, offered ample room and comfort, including a well-appointed bathroom with plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure. The dining experience featured seated meals, although guests could eat more casually at other locations on the ship. I especially appreciated the option to order half portion meals at lunch and dinner. Numerous enclosed and open air spaces were available for reading, doing puzzles, or enjoying a relaxed cup of tea while watching the passing scenery.

Demographics & Social Atmosphere:
The majority of passengers were seasoned cruisers in their 70s and 80s. While my friend and I, in our late 50s, were among the younger and more active guests, the pace of the cruise was adaptable for any physical level. The atmosphere was friendly and sociable, with ample opportunities for interaction, while also allowing for personal space and solitude.
Observations & Considerations:
While the ship was impeccably clean and spacious, the interior decor exhibited a somewhat sterile aesthetic. The professional staff, while competent and courteous, conveyed a sense of transactional service rather than personalized engagement.
Conclusion:
Despite these minor observations, I highly recommend the American Cruise Lines American Revolution Cruise, particularly for those with an interest in early American history. The prevalence of repeat cruisers and positive feedback from fellow passengers underscores the quality and appeal of this experience.
