Introducing Sea Cloud Spirit

By Anne Kalosh.

The long-awaited Sea Cloud Spirit has been delivered to Sea Cloud Cruises by Metalships & Docks SAU in Vigo, Spain.

This 136-passenger tall ship has a classic yacht feel, elegant decor and modern amenities.

It was delayed a year as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic halting work in Spain and closing borders to the international subcontractors and suppliers.

But the photo above definitely indicates Sea Cloud Spirit was worth waiting for. It’s a real beauty with an incredible 44,100 square feet/4,100 square meters of sails.

Maiden Voyage From Rome

The maiden voyage is now set for Sept. 14, a 10-night round-trip from Civitavecchia (Rome). Sea Cloud Spirit will spend fall in the Western Mediterranean, followed by winter in the Canary Islands.

This 453-foot/138-meter, three-masted ship is a true sailing vessel, sailed by hand. It joins Sea Cloud Cruises’ legendary 90-year-old Sea Cloud, originally E.F. Hutton and Marjorie Merriweather Post’s private yacht, and Sea Cloud II, built in 2001.

Since sailing is not possible all the time, Sea Cloud Spirit is equipped with two diesel-electric engines. Only low-sulfur marine diesel will be used.

Balcony Accommodations

The vessel offers elegant indoor and casual alfresco dining, balcony cabins and a spa/wellness area. An elevator connects the five decks. Sea Cloud Spirit will be manned by 85 crew.

Very unusual for a tall ship are the balcony accommodations. Twenty-five of the 69 outside cabins have balconies, including the three owner’s suites.
