Review:Ā Once in a Lifetime
Iāve been on close to 20 cruises and this one was definitely my favorite.
The ship itself (Star Clipper) was fun to be on. Ā Lots of lines and ropes going every which way. Ā I got to climb one of the masts. We raised the sails every day and travelled under wind propulsion. I like to know how things work and it was easy to observe how the ship was actually operated by a fairly limited crew.Ā I always wake up early to watch the approach to each new port.Ā I especially enjoyed this on the Star clipper, as I could interact with the helmsman and officers on duty (to the degree they where able to without interfering with their duties).
The itinerary was good. Ā What can I say, southern Thailand is exotic no matter how you measure. The only occasional downside was some of the islands can be āover lovedā due to the many visitors, but I canāt blame them for wanting to be there too.
The passengers on the Star Clipper were a very international and friendly group. Ā Most are very well travelled.Ā It was easy to meet others and make new lifetime friends.
The food was also great. Ā Nice presentation and good selection. Ā I would have liked to see more local cuisine (I love Thai food!). Ā However I still put on 5-10 pounds, but Iām almost back to my pre-cruise weight almost a month later.
I plan to take my adult kids on a clipper ship cruise sometime soon.
