UnCruise Adventures’ Wilderness Legacy
We had a little e-chat with Dan Blanchard, founder & CEO of UnCruise Adventures, about the 86-pax Wilderness Legacy.
The folks that run UnCruise are a pleasure to talk to because they are so passionate and committed to offering intimate, small-scale, hands-on travel experiences in wild and remote places in Alaska as well as the Sea of Cortez, Columbia & Snake Rivers, Hawaii and the Galapagos.
Heidi @QuirkyCruise: What makes UnCruise Adventures’ Wilderness Legacy special?
Dan @UnCruise: The Wilderness Legacy is our largest vessel, and while she may have a different look, she also leads some of our most adventurous itineraries, including “Wild, Woolly & WOW,” a new one for 2022.
And Legacy has our custom launch dock we call the “Sea Dragon” to safely launch our kayaks, paddle boards, and more for our guests.
She goes where others don’t and is popular for our guests young and old, in Alaska and on the Columbia and Snake rivers.
Wilderness Legacy is also the only vessel we have that includes a lift for those with less mobility on stairs.
She is dear to my heart, and people love the owner’s suite on the top deck, my favorite when I’m on board.

Heidi @QuirkyCruise: Why is Wilderness Legacy ideal for families?
Dan @UnCruise: Wilderness Legacy is a great option for multi-generational families as there is plenty of room to roam.
From the hot tub on the top deck to the exercise room on the aft, and a spacious lounge with games, movies, drinks, and snacks, just off the bow.
Aboard Wilderness Legacy, as on all of our itineraries, there is a “choose your own adventure” option as well as a choice of activity level.
So, you can go hard charging or take it slow, it’s your adventure.

Heidi @QuirkyCruise: Why did you change the name, adding Wilderness?
Dan @UnCruise: The Wilderness Legacy officially joined our wilderness family of adventure ships on a new level in 2020 so that our adventure vessels would be consistent across the fleet.
Just like our Safari Explorer just received a new make-over and new hull color from blue to green, the Wilderness Legacy joins in the green fleet of adventure-focused vessels.
Heidi @QuirkyCruise: You call Juneau, Alaska, home; what makes Juneau & Alaska so special for small-ship cruising?
Dan @UnCruise: My love of Alaska has always been there. The capital of Alaska (Juneau) is landlocked, hemmed in with snowcapped mountains, and sits in a beautiful fjord.
You can find a massive glacier 10 minutes from the airport and other glaciers adorn the mountains that engulf this historic mining center.
From trails for hiking to a mountain top tram, whale watching, salmon & halibut fishing, skiing, bear watching, and more, Juneau, Alaska is an adventurer’s paradise.
Museums, native culture, and great food highlight this gorgeous town of 32,000 people and that is something I love to share with my guests.
I take them on historical walks through the town prior to boarding when my time allows me to show them the history and introduce them to the locals.
So then once they’re onboard one of our UnCruise ships, they already feel like part of the Alaska family.
