Founded over 50 years ago by a Navy veteran and sailing enthusiast, The Moorings specializes in private yacht charters, from self-skippered monohulls and award-winning catamarans, either sail or power, to all-inclusive fully-crewed yacht vacations or just a single cabin on a scheduled cruise.

They operates more than 400 yachts in over 20 of the most popular sailing destinations around the world, including the Caribbean and Mediterranean Seas, the Americas, Seychelles, Thailand and Tahiti.

The majority of the custom-built fleet is privately-owned. The Moorings sells them and then provides income to owners via their charter yacht management program. This arrangement means that The Moorings’ yachts remain uniform in style and quality across destinations, and service is consistent.

If you’re not qualified to skipper a vessel or need a refresher, The Moorings partners with Offshore Sailing School, which offers a full menu of sail and power certification courses, completion of which grants you a 15% discount off your first Moorings’ charter.

Fleet

Across the fleet, the majority of charters are self-skippered.

Roughly 20% of our charters globally are aboard our all-inclusive crewed product, with crewed charters mostly in British Virgin Islands. Other destinations may have only one or two dedicated crewed yachts, and others none at all.

Itineraries

Chartered yachts sail the Caribbean from bases in Antigua, the British Virgin Islands, Grenada, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Martin and St. Thomas.
From the Americas, book from Exumas or Abacas (Bahamas), St. Petersburg (Florida), Belize or Paraty (Brazil).
The Mediterranean has seven charter bases: Athens Zea, Corfu, Croatia, Procida (island near Napbles), Sardinia, Sicily and Spain. And finally, there’s Seychelles, Thailand and Tahiti.

Chartering a yacht gives you privacy and freedom to chart your own course. Crewed ships are still small and intimate, with friendly skippers who are expert in their destinations and can take you to the best locations for whatever activities you prefer and cooks who can prepare gourmet meals.

The Moorings private yacht charters are offered year round, with some seasonal closures in destinations with more temperate climates.

Sustainability Initiatives

The Moorings participates in fundraising events for the Leukemia Cup Regatta, supporting the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and Restoring Vision, providing the Belize Council for the Vision Impaired with 3,000 reading glasses for the underprivileged.

Activities & Entertainment

Crewed charters come with lots of water sports equipment (although The Moorings does not provide snorkels and masks).

Count on swimming, fishing, kayaking or maybe even water-skiing. Crews familiar with each destination can recommend the best sights to see.

Onboard, larger yachts have TVs with DVDs or programming and sound systems throughout.

Ships

The Moorings’ ships are all custom-designed and built, sharing quality and state-of-the art features across the entire fleet, regardless of size or location.

Larger sail and power catamarans can be booked with a captain and cook who deliver an experience that is both five-star and personalized.

The Moorings Sail Monohulls

These single-hull sailing vessels can be as small as 34’3”ft. with two cabins and six berths and as large as 52’4”ft. with four cabins and 10 berths. They’re designed to be fast yet versatile and easy to handle. Smaller craft have wide cockpits and a convertible saloon with fold-away chart table, an L-shaped galley with appliances that include an espresso maker. Cabins in these smaller boats are likely to have shared bathrooms.

Larger monohulls have air-conditioned interiors, including a saloon with windows and seating for six, an audio system throughout, a kitted-out galley with plenty of storage space, and cabins with en suite. A navigation station has a lighted chart table and bookshelves. A fold-down swim platform has bench seating and a table with an icebox and storage.

The Moorings Sail Catamarans

Sail catamarans are from 37’6”ft. with three cabins and seven berths to 57’7”ft. with six cabins and 13 berths. Smaller catamarans have a raised helm station with 360-degree visibility, a saloon and fully equipped galley with stove, oven and broiler, plus counter space and storage. One queen cabin has a desk, closet and en suite while two double occupancy cabins share a bathroom.

Larger models have fly bridges with lounge seating, a propane grill, wet bar and fridge. Spaces below are air-conditioned, including a saloon with a wet bar, TV, DVD, Apple TV, Wi-Fi and a sound system and a galley with a large fridge and freezer, 4-burner stove with oven and broiler and microwave. Six cabins each have en suite; two open to a forward cockpit and have good views, while four more are down below.

The Moorings Power Catamarans

Smaller power catamarans measure 41’3”ft. and have four cabins and nine berths while the largest is 53’1”ft., also with four cabins and nine berths. The smallest is easy to handle, with three deck levels and air-conditioning throughout. The galley has a two-burner stove, oven, fridge and storage. Each hull has two large cabins with shared bath and lots of additional storage.

The largest has an interior helm station plus an exterior on the fly bridge where there’s also an electric grill and wet bar. The open-plan galley and saloon has wraparound windows. The large galley has a four-burner stove, oven, full-sized refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave and lots of countertop and storage space, while the saloon has a TV, Wi-Fi, USB charging station and sound system. Four cabins have queen beds, space to move around and en suite. The ship also has a dinghy lift platform.
